Every brief we receive is missing something important. That is not the client's fault: the important things only show up once you talk to users, open the analytics and read the code.
So we never quote a full project from a brief. We sell two weeks of discovery at a fixed price, and the quote for everything else is the last thing those two weeks produce.
What happens in the two weeks
- Interviews with five to eight users or customers.
- A review of analytics, support tickets and the existing product.
- A technical review with your engineers.
- A written plan with scope, milestones and a fixed price.
Why clients prefer it
The plan is theirs to keep, even if they never hire us for the rest. Most do, because by then the quote is not a guess: it is a number they watched us build.
A fixed price is only fair when both sides know what they are buying.
If your next project has a vague brief, buy two weeks before you buy six months.
